'24 = connecting

Fine bonds have been wrought at Op Stoom, and things are going well between colleagues. Together we contribute to a great day for the little ones and the slightly bigger ones, so you can go to work rest assured.

We are quite outspoken in our pedagogy and in these times of staff shortages we do everything we can to get everyone who works for us to move in the direction of Op Stoom. Connecting is the magic word and we are making good progress in this regard.

Kind regards, Linda and Renate
Directors Op Stoom

Say hi!

Approximately one in five employees who work at the group are externally affiliated with us. As a parent, you naturally do not notice which contract someone has and thanks to the good cooperation in your child's group, the quality is good. When the tide turned and we could not find enough people who wanted to be employed, we immediately appointed 2 coordinators to provide good guidance to all external employees. Jeanine and Marieke know what is going on and how to connect people. They're giving you a wave!

Positive flow

Our staff is positive and loving towards the children. Logical, but how exactly do we do that?

We see your child
We give every child sufficient attention, love and stimulation. By having a nice chat together, making jokes and also having serious conversations about anything and everything. A wink, a pat on the head or a hand on your child's shoulder sometimes works wonders. Positive gestures give your child the feeling that he is seen and feels nice and safe. We have time to play with children and guide them in their own play. We divide the tasks well among ourselves and split up the group of children more often during the day, because in a small group of children you can give more individual attention.

We spend the day together
We actually spend the whole day together, because setting the table together or helping to pour drinks creates positive vibes. We provide your child with social skills and we encourage mutual contact between children. We let children play together, help each other and encourage them to listen to each other. And stick it behind the wallpaper? We don't do that! We identify what we would like to see in your child and we look for a solution to meet your child's individual needs.

Endless patience
We have endless patience and understand that children's pace is slower than our own. Fortunately, at Op Stoom we are not in a hurry! If your child wants to try something out for themselves, there is room and respect for this, we watch what happens and we praise doing it yourself. We think waiting a little longer for an answer when we ask something is very normal. Usually we just ask the question again, in a slightly different way. Then the penny will drop.

During the first two quarters of 2024, we will pay extra attention to our positive flow with children through training. In lecture for employees by child psychologist Tischa Neve about positive parenting and in May everyone will be inspired by Annemiek Waage about positive communication.

Picture book Bear is here!

All groups at our daycare and toddler care have a bear as a friend of the group. Now there is also a book about Bear!

Our first own Bear picture is out! A great moment to personally hand over the first copy to the creator of the idea – our own Zoë van den Berg. Zoë's idea (a book about Bear) took six months to develop. The bear has been photographed, a storyline has been devised, text written, illustrations made… You can understand that we are very #PROUD.

Who is this beautiful book actually for?
Children who celebrate their second birthday at Op Stoom receive the picture book as a gift. And we read it aloud at our daycare centers and toddler care locations, so fun.

More Bear?
On Instagram you can see 'the making of' of this very nice book and many more great images.

Facts & Figures

We present you with a few bite-sized Op Stoom highlights (in Dutch).

Holiday plans? Don't forget to sign off your child.

Isn't it wonderful, the May holidays and the summer holidays are also approaching. Going abroad or being a tourist in Holland, slow down and recharge. Don't forget to sign off your child from childcare. You can do this very easily via the ParentApp by Konnect. You can sign off from 3 months in advance. By doing so you help us to create a good, balanced personnel planning behind the scenes. We are able to give employees time off who want time off and we prevent food waste.

As a parent, you will receive a credit for the days that Op Stoom is closed, with the exception of official holidays. These are the Friday after Ascension Day and the days between Christmas and New Year's Eve, provided this is a contract day. This credit is valid for one year from the 'missed' day of care. This credit is called "Compensation for closing days" and can therefore be clearly distinguished in the ParentApp by Konnect from the accrued childcare points, called "absence credit". The validity date is visible on both.

The (school) photographer will no longer come by

The photographer no longer visits the Op Stoom groups. This has several reasons. The photography requires a lot of preparation and the day itself is busy and sometimes uncomfortable for employees and children. In these times when we have to do our best every day to have sufficient and good staff in each group, it is difficult to do these kinds of extra jobs. In addition, the privacy of children and permission to share an image has changed in recent years. Parents increasingly do not want their child to have their photo taken and the image shared. This means that the photographer would only come by for the annual portrait of your child and well, once upon a time parents could hardly take a photo of their offspring themselves. That is different now!

Webinar 'Help your child grow' | May 16 2024

A growth or fixed mindset? In this webinar, Tischa Neve (psychologist, educator and author) will tell you all about the differences between the two. After this, you will know how to help children from an early age to develop a growth mindset. You will learn how to give effective compliments and how to use 'growth language'. Op Stoom 'in the wild'

The festival season is about to start. Preparations are in full swing behind the scenes. Pallets are collected, screws and nails are sorted, tools are laid out and the mud kitchen is swept clean.

Our loyal fans already know, Op Stoom + festival = hut building and cooking in the mud kitchen!

Do you have a carpenter, budding architect or 'mud chef' at home? Then we would love to see you and your child at the following festivals:

The Harbor Festival in IJmuiden on June 22 and 23 | Park sessions in Haarlem on July 12-13-14 | Summer Park Sessions in Velsen-Zuid on September 7 and 8

Do you see the Op Stoom running team passing by during the Grachtenloop on June 21? Give them a cheer, they will love it ;-).
