Mission (im)possible

The children of Op Stoom muddle along and find all kinds of creative solutions when they are playing. Sometimes we do nothing else, muddling through in good spirits when it comes to sufficient staff. With the necessary creativity, the recruitment of new employees for a second Op Stoom class was successful. New staff can get a diploma. In the slightly longer term, this means more qualified personnel. In addition, the external employees are so well trained and supervised that our pedagogical employees and children do not want to miss them in the group anymore.

Mission Personnel successful, although the near future remains very exciting. So do you know people who, just like us, enjoy working with children or are you one of those people who think about work during the holidays and would like a new challenge? To sleep or not to zzzsleep…

The theme of sleeping is a daily topic of conversation, both with parents and with the pedagogical staff in childcare. Collaboration on this is important.

Back to the drawing board

This quarter there has been a lot of talk about free childcare. The signals are now red. The planning offices recommend that the (caretaker) cabinet reconsider the plan and go back to the drawing board because there are many negative consequences associated with the cabinet's plan of almost free childcare. That is good news. We think it is desirable that a realistic plan should be carefully considered that does not lead to longer waiting lists for parents and more work pressure for employees.

Valued

A number of childcare organizations have increased the price for 2023 in the meantime because the salary increase has become clear in the collective labor agreement Childcare. Labor costs always have a major impact on costs. We made a good assessment of the personnel costs we expected in 2022 and for that reason we have seen no reason to increase the price in the meantime.

Twinning with Sint Eustatius

Since 2020, Op Stoom has been a partner of Bes(t)4kids for childcare on St. Eustatius. And the collaboration is in full swing. In April, 4 colleagues from St. Eustatius came to work for us in the Netherlands, and in June we started working on 'Statia'. We talk endlessly about children and upbringing. During this year's first Op Stoom College, guest speaker Jan van der Zwan, psychologist and education advisor at 'Het Breinbureau', gave an instructive and interactive guest lecture about the children's brain. Super interesting.

Op Stoom 'in the wild'

The festival season has started. That means awesome building activities with Op Stoom. We have already completed the 'Harbourfestival' in IJmuiden. There was a lot of carpentry, such fun!
